How to perform the umbrella inspection?
An umbrella usually consists of umbrella cover, umbrella shaft, umbrella handle, and umbrella case. The details of umbrella parts are as the drawing.
But how should we perform an umbrella inspection?
Firstly, we should check its size. Size measurement check includes umbrella diameter, total length of umbrella and rib length. Check more sizes if precise requirements on specification. Usually the tolerance is +/-1 cm if it is not specified at the specification.
Secondly, you need to test the run performance of the umbrella. I usually open and close a tested samples 10 times, to check if it runs all smoothly. I usually test 1% of the total quantity at the minimum of 3 pieces. But you can always require the tested sample quantity.
Then I do the visual inspection for make and workmanship.
The checklist of umbrella inspection includes:
- Cleanliness
If there is soiled panel or rust spots on fabric or on metal
- Material issues
If there is holes or cut on fabric, or weaving defects on fabric, or any kind of printing fault.
- Accessories defects
Any accessory problem could be a major defect on umbrella, however you need to evaluate it how bad it affects the function of product
- Mechanism problem
If the mechanism works too easy or too stiff
- Sewing defects on umbrella cover
You need to inspect all stitchings on umbrella cover and all seams to see if there is missing stitching, broken stitching, loose stitching, run off stitching, open seam and whatever.
- Any other defects, packaging issues, labeling issues
